CONEXÃO RIO DE JANEIRO E RECIFE

Nos dias 15 a 19 deste mês, o Centro de Comunicação e Juventude esteve participando de um intercâmbio com a Instituição Viva Rio vivenciando o projeto Viva Favela, que foi criado em 2001 com objetivos voltados para a democratização da informação, redução nas desigualdades sociais, além da inclusão digital. Esse projeto é desenvolvido através de um portal na internet, que dá espaço às pessoas das grandes favelas cariocas produzirem seu próprio conteúdo informativo, seja em texto, fotografias ou vídeos.

Esse intercâmbio veio a fortalecer dando novas ideias e possibilidades para o destino do CCJ em 2011, sem perder a essência da política do Centro. Esse encontro foi de grande valor para todos envolvidos diretamente ou não, pois deu para enxergar e vivenciar de perto a realidade das pessoas das favelas do Rio e a metodologia de vários grupos de comunicação comunitária.

Assim como no Recife, a mídia mostra e estigmatiza as comunidades, enfatizando a violência, a pobreza e outros fatores que distorcem a imagem das favelas. Após as vivências, percebemos que há algo muito diferente do mundo que se mostra, só do “luxo”. Lá existem pessoas acolhedoras, humildes e preocupadas com o bem estar comum.

Na favela do Morro do Cantagalo, por exemplo, a interação com essas pessoas foi muito forte. Realizamos em parceria com alguns moradores uma mostra de fotografia e a TV aberta, que foram os momentos que possibilitaram uma maior integração nossa com as pessoas da comunidade, que ficaram inusitadas com nossa ida ao Morro e com a experiência da mostra de fotografia, de vídeo e também intervenções de hip-hop. Essa articulação com a Favela do Cantagalo deu-se a partir da vivência de alguns jovens que foram em setembro deste ano para a Mostra Internacional de Fotografia em Paraty.

A programação foi bem diversificada, pois tivemos a troca de experiência com o Viva Rio e o projeto Viva Favela, cada um mostrando como são os seus trabalhos. O CCJ e a Diaconia, por sua vez, tiveram também o momento de compartilhar suas metodologias. Montamos um varal fotográfico em uma sala da sede do Viva Rio, que fica no Bairro da Glória. No dia seguinte, fomos para uma intervenção de grafite na Cidade de Deus e na Escola de Fotografia Lente dos Sonhos, que proporciona a valorização das meninas que sonham em ser modelo. Também houve uma oficina rápida de STOPMOTION na escolinha do Sidney. As vivências foram fundamentais para o crescimento de cada pessoa, CCJ e Diaconia na sua prática educativa.

Diante da vivência intensa durante uma semana em outro estado, percebemos que ainda há muita força de vontade a fim da valorização das pessoas que fazem histórias nas comunidades populares. Este é um trabalho árduo, mas que, de alguma forma, tem surtido efeitos em todo o mundo. É possível mostrar as comunidades com outros olhares. Não só existe a miséria, mas existem também pontencialidades que precisam ser conhecidas pela sociedade. Precisamos de mais espaços como o Viva Favela, o CCJ, a Escola de Fotografia para darmos continuidade à mudança pela conscientização a partir da comunicação.

From the 15th till the 19th of November, the Centro de Comunicaçao e Juventude Recife (CCJ, Youth and Communications Center) participated in an exchange with the Viva Rio Institute, experiencing the project ‘Viva Favela’. This project was started in 2001 with the purpose of democratising information and reducing social inequality to an extent that goes beyond just digital inclusion. This project is developed through an internet portal, which provides a platform to people from the big favela’s of Rio de Janeiro to present their own content, be it text, photos or videos.

This exchange gave rise to new ideas and possibilities for the future of CCJ in 2011, without straying away from the philosophy of the Center. This encounter was very useful to all those who were directly involved, but also to the ones not directly involved, because it gave the opportunity to see and experience the reality of the people living in the favela’s of Rio and the approach of various community groups working in the realm of communication.

In Recife the media stigmatizes the communities, focusing on violence, poverty and other factors that distort the image of favela’s. We know that beside these images there’s so much more. The favela’s are also places where poor but welcoming people try to make the most of it.

In the favela ‘Morro do Cantagalo’, for example, the interaction with these people was very rich. Together with some of the inhabitants we organised a photography and video exhibition, which resulted in a lot of interaction with the people from the community Our presence there for them was a new experience, as was us organising a photography and video exhibition as well asa hip hop event. This project in the favela of Cantagalo came forth out of the experiences that some youths had when they went to the International Photography Exhibition in Paraty in September of this year.

The program was very diverse, there was the exchange of experiences with Viva Rio and the project Viva Favela, each showing how they work. CCJ and Diaconia, in their turn, also had the opportunity to share their approaches. We set up a photography exhibition in a room of the headquarters of Viva Rio, which is in the Gloria neighborhood. The next day, we went to a graffiti event in Cidade de Deus (City of God) and to the ‘Escola de fotografía Lente dos Sonhos’ (Lens of Dreams School of Photography), which was greatly appreciated by the girls that dream of becoming a model. There was also a short class of STOPMOTION at the school of Sidney. These experiences were fundamental to the growth of each person’s practical learning experiences, to CCJ and to Diaconia.

During these week-long intense experiences in another state, we learned that there is still a lot of willpower among the people that are making an effort in their communities. This is hard work, but somehow has proven to be useful to all of us. It is possible to show the communities from different perspectives. It’s not all about misery, there are also opportunities that need to be recognised by society. We need more spaces like the Viva Favela project, CCJ, the school of photography, to provide continuity to the the shift in awareness through communication.
